Days 254 – Cocoa to New Smyrna Beach City Marina, New Smyrna Beach, FL - March 16, 2012

After two days of playing off the boat, we have three days of moving the boat planned.  It was another gorgeous day for traveling and the trip to New Smyrna Beach was beautiful.  We start the day on the Indian River as the intercoastal continues to follow this river for a few more miles.  Then we travel through Haulover Canal which is a manmade cut between the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon.  Much of the Haulover Canal and most of the Mosquito Lagoon is part of the Canaveral National Seashore and is obviously a hot spot for fishing (both from a boat and from the shore).  We also saw lots of manatees and dolphins in this area.  Partway up Mosquito Lagoon, we begin encountering islets (that’s the word used by the guidebook and it means very small island).  We have to travel at minimum wake speed in this section, but it is beautiful to see, so not really a hardship.

Once we arrive at the New Smyrna Beach City Marina we decide to take it easy, catch up on laundry and have dinner on the boat.
