Days 244 and 245 – at Palm Harbor Marina, West Palm Beach, FL - March 6-7, 2012

Much of Florida has been experiencing an EXTREMELY windy few days.  We have had sustained winds in the mid-to-upper 20’s range with gusts over 30.  As a result, we have been happily tied to the dock here in West Palm Beach since we arrived.  Palm Harbor Marina has the best docks we have stayed at since we started our Loop (and the rest of their on shore facilities are pretty great as well).  The marina re-opened in 2009 after a $20 million overhaul and is now a 200 slip state-of-the-art facility (with space for yachts up to 250’).  As we were in Fort Lauderdale, we are definitely the “little fish” at this marina.

Fred has been monitoring his favorite wind and weather websites and we’ve been taking it day by day as to when we will shove off and head north again.  We have been reading the blogs for some of our other Looper friends who are still in the Keys and they are playing the same waiting game we are – waiting for the wind to be better before moving to the next spot.

We have enjoyed the shopping and dining here in West Palm Beach.  There are lots of restaurants within walking distance on the marina and the city operates a free trolley service to get you from one great shopping area to the next.
