Day 40 - Saugatuck to Lake Macatawa - August 15, 2011

Much better weather for travel today.  We headed out mid-morning in full sun and light wind.  There were still some left over rollers on Lake Michigan, but nothing too serious.  It was amazing to look toward Holland from the Kalamazoo River channel and be able to see “Big Red” the lighthouse on the Holland break water where we were headed.  Special note to those who know their west Michigan geography – yes, Saugatuck is south of Holland/Lake Macatawa.  We went to Saugatuck first on purpose so that we could spend some extra time there.  We are sailboat racing out of the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club this coming weekend and then will head quickly to Chicago once our racing is done.

We are anchored in Pine Creek Bay on the north shore of Lake Macatawa.  It is a beautiful place – not small and isolated like some anchorages, but a great place to hang out for a couple of days.
