Day 381 – Hastings, Ontario to Peterborough Marina, Peterborough, Ontario - July 21, 2012

We are headed to Peterborough Marina where we have reservations for tonight.  It is Saturday and we know that weekends get very busy on the waterway and we want to make sure we have a place to stop tonight – we don’t want to rely on there being a spot available on a lock wall.  Our trip today is kind of in two sections.  First we travel across Rice Lake, the second largest lake on the waterway, and then we travel up the Otonabee River.  Finally we go through one lock and arrive in Peterborough.

It was an uneventful day, although quite slow.  The trip across Rice Lake was at our usual speed with just a few slowdowns for small fishing boats (we put out a pretty big wake when we are traveling at our “usual” speed and we don’t want to be a rude boater).  Once we got into the Otonabee River we spent a lot more time going slow – there were lots of cottages with docks and boats and even more small fishing boats.  It was quite obvious it was the weekend – everyone was out enjoying the water.

Every Wednesday and Saturday evening, the city of Peterborough along with many local businesses hosts the Little Lake Musicfest in the park right next to the marina.  So we enjoyed dinner on the boat and then sat on the back deck and enjoyed the concert.
