Day 363 – Sylvan Beach, NY to Winter Harbor Marina, Brewerton, NY - July 3, 2012

The wind calmed right down over night, so as we headed out into Oneida Lake the water was very smooth and we had a beautiful trip.  Oneida Lake is about 20 miles long and just over five miles wide at its widest point.  The main channel takes you right through the center of the lake, so there weren’t a lot of pictures to take although we did peer through the binoculars at some large homes along the shore.

We arrived at Winter Harbor Marina and tied up first to the fuel dock.  We topped off the two side tanks with the lowest priced diesel we have seen on the whole trip (lowest by more than 20 cents per gallon).  Then we swung around onto the wall we will occupy for the next two nights.  After the boat was secure, we were off to the local Enterprise Car Rental office.  Fred and John are going to drive the rental car to Ilion Marina and pick up John and Rosemary’s car so that they can head home from Brewerton on July 5.

After dropping off the guys at Enterprise, Rosemary and I stopped for lunch and then went back to the boat for a bit of reading and relaxation.  In the mid afternoon, we had visitors stop by.  My cousins Bill and Pam live in the Syracuse area and have been following the blog and watching our progress in hopes of meeting up with us when we were near (add in a few phone calls and a plan to meet at Winter Harbor Marina was made).  We enjoyed a great afternoon catching up and Rosemary was thrilled to learn that Bill and Pam had done the same tour of Australia that she and John have planned for October, so there was lot of sharing about all the “not to miss” stops in Australia.

As evening approached Bill and Pam convinced us to follow them to Syracuse for dinner at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. What a great place for barbeque - our meals were outstanding.  We then said good-bye to Bill and Pam and headed back to Brewerton in hopes that we would get back in time to enjoy the Brewerton fireworks which are traditionally done on the third of July.  It was a challenge getting back to the boat because of the traffic and the need to work our way around a few closed streets, but we were successful.  We weren’t able to see all the fireworks, just the ones that were high enough in the air to clear the trees, but we did have the best seat in the house – we watched right from the deck of Boreas.

All in all it was an extremely busy, but very good day.
