Day 364 – at Winter Harbor Marina, Brewerton, NY - July 4, 2012

Since we have John and Rosemary’s car available, the four of us decide to spend the day touring the Finger Lakes area.  We head off down the New York Throughway to the town of Geneva on Seneca Lake with the plan to take the “slow route” (two lane, back roads) back to Brewerton.  We stop at a park at the north end of Seneca Lake and we comment on the very small number of boats we are seeing – maybe this is a big lake and it just doesn’t seem busy, but since it is the Fourth of July, we expected lots more boat traffic.

We get back in the car to continue our journey and turn the air conditioning on full blast – it is in the mid-nineties outside and the humidity is very high – it’s so warm it almost takes your breath away.   As we continue our trip we drive along the Cayuga-Seneca Canal which is part of the New York State Canal system, just like the Erie and Oswego Canals.  We pass Cayuga Lake which looks just as quiet (boat wise) as Seneca Lake.  Then we get into the town of Skaneateles on the north end of Skaneateles Lake – what a difference.  The town is packed with people and the lake is packed with boats.  This is what we expected to see on all the Finger Lakes today.

We get back to Boreas in the late afternoon and do a bit of relaxing.  Then it’s off to dinner in town and then back to the boat so John and Rosemary can get ready to depart in the morning.  We had a great visit with them and we are so happy they were able to travel just a few miles along the Erie Canal with us.
