Day 350 – Jersey City, NJ to Half Moon Bay Marina, Croton-on-Hudson, NY - June 20, 2012

We had an easy travel day – 32 miles up the Hudson River.  The first few miles as we traveled along the shore of the island of Manhattan were a bit ugly.  The ferry traffic in this area is significant and no one pays any attention to their wake.  The shores are sheet pile walls, so the waves just keep reflecting back into the river.  Fortunately it wasn’t long before the ferry traffic thinned out and the river got quite calm.

The humidity is extremely high today (with predictions of temperatures in the high 90’s before the day ends) so although I took lots of pictures, they aren’t crisp and clear and beautiful – they are a bit hazy.

The scenery certainly changed after we passed under the George Washington Bridge.  The west side of the river is the Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey (and then New York).  The park is over fifteen miles long with beautiful rock cliffs, some as tall as 500 feet, and miles of unspoiled woods.  The Hudson River here is wide and the travel is easy and relaxing.  We keep an eye out for freighters and tows, but the wide river makes encounters relatively uneventful.

We arrive at the marina around noon and get the boat plugged in so that we can get the air conditioner running – we saw 99 degrees on the back porch this afternoon.  It is absolutely sweltering and it is difficult to even be outside.  We spend the rest of the day catching up on inside tasks where thanks to the air conditioner, the temperature and humidity are much lower.
