Days 287 & 288 – at Charleston City Marina, Charleston SC - April 18-19, 2012

On our first day in Charleston we head downtown with Frank and Carrie to check out the stores on Market Street.  We also decide to take a horse drawn carriage tour of the historic district.  The carriage tour is very interesting and we see many styles of homes as well as many Charleston churches.  We also learn a bit of the history of the city.  Tom and Barb then join us downtown for dinner and the six of us enjoy a great meal at Hymans Seafood – a restaurant that is currently being run by the fourth generation of Hymans.

We decide to stay another night in Charleston and visit Fort Sumter in the morning.  Tom and Barb have visited the fort many times, so they stay back at the boat while Fred and I along with Frank and Carrie take the ferry to Fort Sumter.  Although there was a bit of rain in the morning, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip.  Fort Sumter is where the first shots of the Civil War are fired and the park rangers there do an excellent job talking about the part that Fort Sumter played in the war.  After our fort tour, we walked around Charleston and enjoyed the shopping on King Street.
