This was probably our roughest (from a waves perspective) experience on the Chesapeake Bay. As we turned toward the Bay Bridge, the waves were around one foot, but the closer we got to the bridge, the bigger the waves got. By the time we got to the north side of the bridge, there were plenty of two foot waves in the mix. Fortunately the waves were just about straight on the bow. That means very little of the side to side rocking that we dislike. And even better, as we turned to head up the Chester River the waves began to diminish and soon were just a light chop.
We got the anchor set and were ready for the rain – which didn’t come. In fact it was a beautiful afternoon followed by a beautiful evening. The anchorage was nice (not as good as the Wye River, but still very good) and the wind died down to nothing so it was a very comfortable night.
