Day 397 – Killbear Marina to St. Amant’s Marina, Britt, Ontario (Byng Inlet) - August 6, 2012

I got my wish for laundry and internet, but it came at a price – today’s travel was probably the worst we’ve had in a year.  The wind did die down over night and the forecast said it would decrease even more by noon and be blowing around 10 knots or less.  Most of today’s travel is out in the open Georgian Bay, not protected by any little islands, so less wind was definitely important.  Our plan was to turn back and go into the town of Perry Sound if the travel wasn’t good.

Well, the wind forecast was WRONG, but we didn’t realize how wrong until it was way too late to go back.  Instead of decreasing, we actually got an increase in wind and it was blowing over 20 knots during the last hour or so of our trip.  So we traveled in strong wind with waves on the beam.  The last ten miles before we reached the Byng Inlet saw waves in the 3 to 4 foot range.  We will be looking for lighter winds before we leave our marina in Britt so we don’t have a repeat of today.
