Day 300 – at Morehead City Yacht Basin, Morehead City, NC - May 1, 2012

We spent a second night in Morehead City, got a rental car and did some sightseeing and shopping.  However, before we started our exploring, Fred changed the oil on Boreas.  He had stopped by Wal-Mart and picked up the new oil when he got the rental car.  The Wal-Mart auto department was willing to take the used oil, so Fred wanted to get the oil changed right away and take advantage of that opportunity.  Finding a place for your used oil can sometimes be a challenge.

After the oil change we (along with Frank and Carrie) drove over to Beaufort, NC for lunch and then shopped our way along the main street next to the harbor.  We walked the harbor area which is very nice, but the river current is swift through the marina.  We are glad to be a Morehead City Yacht Basin which is very protected.  Then we headed back to Morehead City to return the used oil, stop at West Marine and do some grocery shopping.  We ended the evening with a farewell dinner for Frank and Carrie.

Since today is Day 300 it is time to give an update on our trip statistics.  In 300 days we have spent time in 11 different states and traveled 4,667.5 nautical miles using 2284 gallons of fuel.  We have traveled under 431 bridges and through 37 locks.  We are absolutely thrilled with this trip and look forward to each day on the water.  Our rough plan puts us back in Michigan in early September, some 125 days from now.
