Days 90 & 91 – Island Cove Marina to Lowe Branch anchorage on Watts Bar Lake - October 4-5, 2011

We delayed our departure from Island Cove Marina by about an hour today to let the last of the fog burn off.  The last few nights have been quite cold (in the 40’s) and the water is still warm (in the high 60’s/low 70’s) so fog often develops overnight and has to burn off in the morning.

We weren’t sure how far we wanted to go today, so we put together a list of stops and just started out.  The plan was to stop at whatever looked good or when we got tired.  It was a beautiful day to travel and we just kept going.  We went through the lock at Watts Bar Lock and Dam and ended up anchored in Lowe Branch, just a mile from the dam.  It is so peaceful and beautiful here, that we decide to spend a second day and night.  While we’re here we plan to organize some things to send home.  Fred III will be here this weekend and we’ll have a chance to get rid of stuff we no longer need that is just taking up space.

the Sequoyah nuclear power plant - the plant was running (they were
discharging water into the river and it was quite turbulent), but the cooling
towers were not being used

many to be the most beautiful on the Tennessee River
