Day 373 – Kingston, Ontario to anchorage near Witlow Point in Hay Bay (Bay of Quinte) - July 13, 2012

The captains (Fred and Greg) got together and decided we’d check out a couple of anchorages about halfway between Kingston and Trenton and then choose one for tonight.  It was a spectacular day to travel – there was no wind when we started and just a light breeze as we arrived at the anchorage.  After checking out a couple of options we chose Hay Bay, anchoring just beyond Witlow Point.  It got extremely warm in the afternoon (in the high 80’s) and we were lucky there was a breeze blowing as it kept the boat from getting too hot too quickly.

We ran the generator for awhile so we could cook dinner and run the air conditioner to cool off the boat.  Today is Fred’s birthday and although it wasn’t fancy, we did have Fred’s favorite dinner tonight – leftover spaghetti.  We celebrated with cupcakes, substituting for birthday cake.  Fred’s favorite part of his birthday was realizing that he had now spent two birthday’s in a row on the boat on this amazing adventure.

Portsmouth Olympic Harbor - this sculpture was used to hold the Olympic

Montreal Olympics in 1976 - this is the harbor where we sail our
International 110 when we race here in Kingston

looking out at Lake Ontario - it was amazingly calm and it was very
difficult to see the horizon line - what you see on the right is the
edge of an island poking out into the lake

my favorite water bird - the loon

we enjoyed a beautiful sunset from our anchorage

the sun was a very different color as it began to sink behind the trees

often the best colors occur after the sun has gone below the horizon

  1. Hi! I love that picture of the lake with the barely visible horizon line. Is there anyway I can use it for my organization's website? We are located in Kingston, ON so it is nice that it's relevant. Please contact me at outreach@hearthmakers.org
    Thanks!
