Day 367 – at Islander Marina, Clayton, NY - July 7, 2012

We spent a second day in Clayton so that we could tour the Antique Boat Museum that is here in town.  We have heard from a number of Loopers that this is a great museum and they were right.  We saw tiny racing boats as small as ten feet long all the way up to a 106 foot long houseboat built in 1903 and every size boat in between.  The museum has an entire building devoted to the “Quest for Speed” and another that contains a collection of pleasure boats – the ones we all recognize as classic wooden boats.  As with many of the boat museums we have seen on this trip, they also have a restoration shop.  The work they do in these shops is pretty amazing.

the "wings" on Juno were w revolutionary design

this 39'3" boat was built by George Lawley & Sons - he's the same builder
who built our first International 110 (a wooden boat) back in the 1940's

the "Quest for Speed" building

if you would like to experience the 1000 Islands in an old wooden
boat, this one departs from the museum every hour for a thrilling run
through the islands

this is the main museum building

at the end of the museum dock was an osprey nest - if you look
closely I think you can see the head of one of their chicks

another beautiful sunset over the St. Lawrence River
