The wind is blowing from the west today which can make for uncomfortable travel on Georgian Bay. Our route today is mostly protected with small islands and rock outcroppings between us and the bay itself, so we figured we would be OK. And for the most part we were. We had maybe twenty minutes of very uncomfortable swells from the side, but that was it. What was actually worse was some of the other boaters traveling along the same path we were. There was one group of three boats that came up behind us and passed us way too close and making huge wakes – we rocked so hard I actually ran below worried about the lamp falling off the counter.
We had some very light showers in the middle of our travels that made spotting buoys a challenge, but good use of the binoculars, the chart plotter, the iPad, the paper chart and of course the human windshield wiper we didn’t have any problems. There were two places where the route was quite narrow and one where the depths were a bit worrisome, but again, we didn’t have any issues. As we entered the anchorage, we again found five boats rafted together and tied to shore, but there was plenty of room and we got the anchor set on the first try. The wind is supposed to shift this evening so we are holding off on a stern anchor or tying to shore.

everyday, everywhere we go looks amazing |
this is a common view as we travel along the small-craft route |
not all rock is the same color - this has some neat looking pink tones |
small rock outcroppings, small islands with just a few trees - all beautiful |
this twisted, bumpy rock is a big change from the smooth granite we've been seeing |
