June 26, 2019 - Duncan Bay Boat Club to anchorage at Harbor Island

We began our trip to Lake Superior today.  We aren’t actually in Lake Superior yet, but we are working our way closer.  Today we crossed the top of Lake Huron going from Cheboygan in Michigan’s lower peninsula to an anchorage at Harbor Island which is just north of Drummond Island, as far east as you can be in the upper peninsula.

It was an easy ride that took us past four lighthouses and up the first five miles of the St. Mary’s River.  We usually see lot of freighters along this route, but today we saw just one or two and only from a distance.  Hopefully on tomorrow’s trip we will see more.

The anchorage was beautiful, right up until a good sized thunderstorm blew through.  The chance of rain was extremely small and a last look at the radar before we lost cell phone coverage revealed no potential storms so we were surprised when the sky got dark, thunder rumbled and it began to rain.  An by began to rain I mean it poured - buckets and buckets.  It rained so hard we could barely see the shore and we were only a couple hundred feet away.  Fortunately there wasn’t much wind associated with this storm and it went through quickly.  The remainder of the evening was beautiful.
