July 8, 2019 - Marquette to an anchorage on the Portage River

The original travel plan was to go from Marquette to Big Bay and then on to Houghton/Hancock the following day.  However, the weather reports indicated that the smarter move would be to go all the way to Houghton/Hancock today.  Well, we got almost there and are in a beautiful anchorage on the Portage River about ten miles from Houghton/Hancock.  Since we will travel these last ten miles in the Portage River and across Portage Lake, the slightly higher winds should not bother us.

Today’s trip was easy and uneventful.  We were a ways off shore for most of the trip, so not much for pictures.  The shoreline here is mostly beautiful pines with lots of granite rock.  We also got to view the Huron Mountains, the highest mountains in Michigan.

The amount of pine pollen in the water is astounding
