Day 286 – Beaufort, SC to Charleston City Marina, Charleston, SC - April 17, 2012

Due to some potential poor weather in the forecast for tomorrow, we decide to go all the way to Charleston today instead of stopping part way at an anchorage.  We originally thought that stopping at the anchorage would get us staged for some shallow water we would be encountering, but studying the guidebook and the tide tables ensured us that we would be fine.  There are two sections of the intercoastal along today’s route that warrant a special navigation warning in the guidebook.  These warnings are to alert us to areas where the depths are not as charted or there is shoaling we need to pay attention to.  We will pass through these areas before low tide, so we should not have any issues as long as we are paying attention.

It was a beautiful travel day, just a bit longer than we have done lately.  With our 7:00am departure we were tied up on the Charleston City Marina’s MegaDock not long after 2:00pm.  With the swift tidal currents around Charleston, it was a bit of a challenge getting all the dock lines and spring lines tied just right, but the captain doesn’t give up and with a bit of effort we get both Boreas and Once Around safely secured for whatever the wind and current throws at us.
